I chose to replace a high end name brand cream for this more down to earth, rustic and traditional cream and I am so glad I did. This is a great finishing cream, that you use to seal in moisture. In a multi-step skin care regimen this should be your last item you layer on. That is, after your toner, moisturizers, serums, ect. It is a sealing occlusive cream. It doesn't contain any water-based ingredients to add moisture, so you want to put those on before this one. But it sure seals everything in so nicely. This is an oil based formula but it honestly melts into the skin due to the jojoba oil blend. Jojoba oil is a very lightweight oil that sinks in and doesn't sit on top of the skin. The tallow just melts right in with it sealing in all of your other products for that dewy glass/honey skin look if you do it right. You only need a pea sized amount to start. I put a small dot on cheeks, chin and forehead and blend away. The frankincense smells light and lovely and it fades quickly, so you aren't smelling it but for a few moments when you apply it. I am going to be a repeat customer for this. What I got instead was a semi-hard cream that I imagine was mostly beef tallow pressed against the side of the jar. In only one photo does it say the texture may firm naturally depending on the temperature, but you have to look closely to find that info. It's described as "rich whipped cream" with a "whipped cloud-soft texture" on the box and throughout the product description. Obviously it got too cold during shipment, but it's now been inside a nice warm house for 6 days and it's still semi-hard. On the positive side, I've been using it for the last four days and I honestly think it's a good product. At first, I used way too much ~ totally my fault ~ and it didn't absorb and felt greasy. Once I started using the suggested pea-sized amount, it left a light but protective barrier on my face that is ideal for cold and dry winter weather but I personally won't use it in the summer. Side benefit: rubbing the excess into my cuticles has definitely made them softer. It's also good for dry patches, knees, elbows, etc. I like the apothecary packaging design, the factory sealed jar and that it's a USA made product. I also like the scent ~ it smells fresh, clean and definitely citrus which is probably the frankincense. I didn't notice any scent of honey or any "beefy" tallow odor. Bottom line, I don't know how the light, fluffy and attractive version works but the semi-hard, concentrated, not-so-attractive version I've been using actually does what it says it will.
